Alan Wake 2 has sold 1.3 million copies, making it the fastest selling Remedy game of all time. I guess going digital only for a full priced game didn't hurt them at all.

I’ve almost bought it a few times. I feel like every time I visit any digital storefront it’s in my face. I guess the aggressive advertising is working.

I saw this on Gematsu earlier. Smoke and mirrors, imo. 1.3 million copies when your development + marketing costs are a reported $70 million isn't exactly great if you do the math. If you look beneath the surface and beyond whatever headline they try to push, I think you see a much clearer picture.

There's this quote from the press release:

"the game has already recouped a significant part of the development and marketing expenses."

So the game still hasn't turned a profit. And Remedy Entertainment's stock is down 30% in the last month which is a HUGE drop so obviously investors aren't happy with the company's outlook. You take Epic's money, you skip over a physical release and you're still in the red.

I don't see how this is positive news. It scares me that a game that had all this buzz and hype is super, super niche. For reference, Granblue Fantasy Relink, a super niche JRPG which came out last week, has already sold 1 million copies. Maybe just maybe limiting the number of people who are able to buy your game that cost a crapton to make isn't' a good idea.

Who's the say it wouldn't be at 2 million or 2.5 million with physical? I personal know some people that won't buy a digital only game. I prefer physical myself but I did buy it.

Same here. I usually buy only physical copies unless forced, like with Alan Wake 2, to go digital l, and I bought it too and loved it. Still wish they gave us a physical option though. Not a fan of other all digital only upcoming big release games like Hellblade 2, but the first one I think was digital only also with a only I think European copies on physical, so that’s not too much of a surprise. But yeah, I think if Alan Wake 2 went hybrid physical and digital it would have likely doubled its sales by now.

Since I am a dollar sign I speak with my money. It is the only power I have. When the rumor came out their next XSX version will be discless (this one is much more solid and likely to happen) I ditched Xbox. I didn't buy baldur's gate 3 when it was digital only and now I have a physical collectors edition on the way for PS5. I won't buy alan wake 3 either. They are definitely missing out on a lot of physical sales, and it's a choice they made. My choice is to not buy it.

I've tried to play the Outcast remake demo twice, and both times it crashes within 60 seconds of starting one of the three modes. Which you can only play each mode twice, for a maximum of 20 minutes. And then the demo is worthless as you can't play anymore. And the one mode I can not try again now because it counted both 1 minute sessions before crashing as me completing it. What a joke.

I ain’t buying a pro unless it lets me run all games in 4k 60fps without these different modes. That’s the only way I’ll consider a pro model cause right now my PS5 is just fine for me minus the slight back and forth with graphics options but it’s a minor inconvenience at best.

issue of performance is mostly a game by game basis and the developer. Like, I'm sure some people will thing the Switch 2 will play the new Zelda games out of the box at 60 FPS but it doesn't work like that unless they update the games as they were made targeting 30 FPS. And knowing Nintendo you'll be paying full price all over again for ports.

Personally I don't see a need for upgrading to a Pro model just like I didn't bother with PS4 Pro. Even on the base model PS4 late in the system's life I was still impressed with what that system was capable of graphically, Horizon: Zero Dawn and the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy especially, and I played them a few years after they each had released.

Seeing the FF7 Rebirth Demo suffer on PS5, was a bit alarming. Hopefully will be better come release, but wouldn't count on it. Games are kind of already bottlenecked on current hardware, it's gonna get worse.

Still, unless there's a compelling need/reason, I agree, will wait for PS6.

I only picked up the PS4 Pro because of the Million Edition was just too damn cool. Really wish we'd go back to Translucent designs!

SMT:V Vengeance was just announced for all platforms. Which is SMT:V with its new DLC. It was originally just a switch title. June 21st this year.

"Vengeance adds a second route to the game, the first route is the original game. The second route starts off similar to the first route but there are significant changes in the middle/late game and there's a different ending. Both routes come with Vengeance, and are roughly 80+ hours apiece."

So its not actually DLC, its a remake of the story pretty much. Which means they actually added story this time.

Yeah, it ran like crap on the switch. I suffered through it. But don't remember anything about it really. The story was pretty much non existent. It was such an odd game. I'm looking forward to seeing what they added for the story.

It's on my hit list along with Tekken 8 and Persona 3. I've been juggling Helldivers 2 (Soo good!) and Granblue Fantasy Relink (10 hours in. It's solid). And then Rebirth drops in a week. It has been an insane start to the year!

I upgraded to the PS4 Pro when gamestop had a great bonus trade in and the Star Wars Pro was on sale. I got rid of the game it came with but that was a slick looking PS4 Pro (I still have the controller) everything played better, and it was worth it. As of right now I will say I will not upgrade, but will have to see what the Pro has going for it.

The reason I am doing it is I don't have proper gaming PC right at the moment... I will sell my PS5 and gladly get a upgraded PS5. When it comes time for a PS6, I will jut take the pro and move it up stairs. I have actuallly been pretty good this gen. I am still rocking my launch PS5... last gen when a really good revision came out I would get it, when the Slim came out... got it... same with the Pro. Not this gen, that's why I will gladly get a pro.

I would definitely upgrade, especially if it means 4K:60 and not having to choose between 4k:30 and 1080p:60 - imagine playing Spiderman in fidelity with the performance FPS etc.

PS5 is good hardware but it still can't push enough fps in fidelity modes and especially if there's ray tracing. Gimme that Pro or 6 any day I'd upgrade day 1.

All they care about is "the line goes up", anything "quality" that's not 100% guarenteed to make them money (nothing is 100%...) gets tossed. Shaving pounds to save pennies is what they're doing, these MBA dolts don't know what the market wants, and wouldn't be able to find out with a map and a native guide, lol.

The thing is with things the way they are right now smaller dev's would vanish. This has nothing to do with Big companies buying up little ones. This IMO has everything to do with the Tech bubble we were hearing about. With the pandemic there was a massive run on tech from working at home or trying to kill time! The Videogame industry saw some pretty big growth in that time and the industry when on a pretty big hiring spree what we are seeing now is things adjusting to reflect current market trends. There is a lot of over reacting right now. I am however glad Sony is stepping back from this Live service kick. I don't mind having one or two games in Sony's stables that are live service as it keeps a steady flow cash to help fund games I enjoy BUT Sony I think was trying WAY to hard.

Games like Fortnite and Warzone get a pass cause they're free to play games that are technically "live service". Then there's the bullcrap pay full msrp for "live service". The latter games tend to always fail.

Those are live service games. But they are also free to play games. So people don't care about them nickle and dimming to make money. As its a free game. And those are purely cosmetic purchases. The issue people have is when you buy a $70 game, and it turns out to be a live service game that is constantly putting ads in your face to buy DLC. They then also seem to design the game around road blocks and frustrating the player in hopes they pay for the micro-transactions to make the game not so frustrating. Meaning they are not just cosmetic. They also seem to force ads on you more than f2p games do. There are two types of these games. Ones that are done correctly like Fortnite that people don't have a problem with. And then all the other crap we get like Destiny 2, Diablo 4, Overwatch and so many others.

Oh ok. I guess I don't really understand the Diablo 4 one because I bought that game and beat it and did a little end game and never bought anything extra.

Also some games like CoD cold war for instance has a battle pass, but the game was fine without it but you could get it for $10 and get cool guns and operators and stuff, I never had an issue with it.

I guess if it was pay to win or pay to get things that really should just be in the game I could see. But I see the point I mean I appreciate normal games like Persona 3R I'm playing now it's just a game no added BS or extra transactions etc

@longhornsk57 Diablo 4 intentionally slowed the players progress down, making the grind longer and harder. Then released the season battle passes that give you xp boosts and material boosts. Which then do not even bring you back up to what the game was initially like before seasons came out and they nerfed everything into the ground. Their entire game design is around making you play as long as possible in hopes you spend money on the battle pass and other cosmetics. Which is what people have a problem with.

CoD I personally think also falls on the Fortnite side. You can't really buy things in CoD that I'm aware of to make it pay to win, or to give you a shortcut in game. Its just cosmetic stuff isn't it? I don't play CoD so I don't know and don't pay attention to it.

Diablo IV cap grind was pretty rough and they made it almost impossible to cap for endgame after seasons launched. Unless you spend every waking hour doing very repetitive grinds - and then they made the Uber Lilith boss- which is pretty trash because they meant for you to scale to it over a really long haul until people busted it. I preferred the monthly fee model honestly.

I agree about pay-to-win, it needs to go away. You know what sucks about the cosmetic stuff, though? Back in my day kids were judged by their peers based on what brand of sneakers they were wearing to school, or if you had a Starter brand jacket or not. These days they're judged by what skins they own in Fortnite and whatever other free-to-play game that becomes the flavor of the week.

Those are all solid. I'm currently playing through Hogwarts Legacy. Recently, I played Sifu. If you're into hard kung fu games, it's absolutely amazing. Astro's Playroom was pretty cool and it's free!. PS+ is definitely worth it if you like a variety of games. Sackboy, Returnal, Stray, and Kena are all available on there plus tons of other games. For anyone just getting a PS5 I always recommend getting the middle tier of PS+ for 1-3 months. It's a great way to try some fantastic games in the catalog and either keep doing PS+ to play them, or find out which ones you like and go find them used and let PS+ expire.

PS+ Extra yes I agree that it's especially good if you're just getting into ps4/ps5 games.
Once you've played them or bought them, it's less worth it.

PS5 remaster would be pretty cool. If they can do Until Dawn I don't see why they can't do Days Gone.

For most games yes. Some obnoxious companies charge for a PS5 upgrade like for Callisto Protocol and Call of Duty. Those companies can eat all the donkey peen.

I don't have a problem paying $10 to upgrade a game. It's not free for these companies to make a last-gen game take advantage of current gen hardware. And it's completely optional.

i have searched for different lists - nothing seems to be fully up to date.

Anyone have a good source on the free or paid ps4 to ps5 upgrade games?

PS5 will be here Tuesday,

I can't find a complete up-to-date list at the moment, but just know that for Sony's 1st party games, Horizon: Forbidden West in early 2022 was their last game to support the free PS4-to-PS5 upgrade. Any game they've released after that will charge $10 and any game released before that is still free.

I was gonna wait for the PC port anyways, I'm not buying games until end of November this year, but after playing FF16 I knew this was coming after they said the next game was next gen exclusive, I was like oh boy. This won't scale well for performance mode. FF16 already looked pretty dumpy and it still couldn't even nail 60fps. I'm envious of people who are down playing action oriented titles at half refresh, I'm too spoiled this late in my life.

Yeah, you can Go wrong with Horizon. If you have never played it then jump into the first then go IMMEDIATLEY into the 2nd! and get that DLC. It's exclusive to PS5 and man oh man is it great.

Last of us remastered is a good one also, if you never played or it's been awhile. Part two at least has a $10 upgrade if you already bought Last of Us 2. Gran Turismo 7 is a great racer if you are looking for one to add some variety to your library. Street Fighter 6 or any of the last two Mortal Combat games are good additions to have for fighters.

I was actually impressed with Mortal Combat 11... I like how the story was done as story modes in fighters, I find are usually toss in like a bad afterthought.

Who has been playing Hell Divers 2? I just got it yesterday but I need to Plat Prince of Persia and I decided to Plat Tales of the New Borderlands.. I said I was not going to because the two main characters in the game are so damn annoying but I am not sure what is worse.

I plan on "Diving" into Hell Divers 2 next week for sure. Can't wait.

Helldivers 2 is very fun. I didn’t care about it but my pal talked me into it and it’s been a good time. Not nearly as obnoxious other games of the same style.

Google “helldivers Joel” and find some neat stuff out.

Argh, was going to just load it up and the disk is bad. I need to go to Walmart and return it… sadly they have none in stock and will have to refund and reorder online… I think GameStop is still out also.

Most people I’ve seen talk about it like it, so I hope you will too. To be honest, I love looter shooters, but I was really disappointed with Helldivers 2. I played it for a couple of hours and immediately sold it and the original Helldivers that was sitting on my shelf.
