I saw this on Gematsu earlier. Smoke and mirrors, imo. 1.3 million copies when your development + marketing costs are a reported $70 million isn't exactly great if you do the math. If you look beneath the surface and beyond whatever headline they try to push, I think you see a much clearer picture.
There's this quote from the press release:
"the game has already recouped a significant part of the development and marketing expenses."
So the game still hasn't turned a profit. And Remedy Entertainment's stock is down 30% in the last month which is a HUGE drop so obviously investors aren't happy with the company's outlook. You take Epic's money, you skip over a physical release and you're still in the red.
I don't see how this is positive news. It scares me that a game that had all this buzz and hype is super, super niche. For reference, Granblue Fantasy Relink, a super niche JRPG which came out last week, has already sold 1 million copies. Maybe just maybe limiting the number of people who are able to buy your game that cost a crapton to make isn't' a good idea.
justin_credible
16-Feb(#6)Who's the say it wouldn't be at 2 million or 2.5 million with physical? I personal know some people that won't buy a digital only game. I prefer physical myself but I did buy it.

20-Feb(#15)issue of performance is mostly a game by game basis and the developer. Like, I'm sure some people will thing the Switch 2 will play the new Zelda games out of the box at 60 FPS but it doesn't work like that unless they update the games as they were made targeting 30 FPS. And knowing Nintendo you'll be paying full price all over again for ports.

Yeah, it ran like crap on the switch. I suffered through it. But don't remember anything about it really. The story was pretty much non existent. It was such an odd game. I'm looking forward to seeing what they added for the story.

It's on my hit list along with Tekken 8 and Persona 3. I've been juggling Helldivers 2 (Soo good!) and Granblue Fantasy Relink (10 hours in. It's solid). And then Rebirth drops in a week. It has been an insane start to the year!

22-Feb(#27)I upgraded to the PS4 Pro when gamestop had a great bonus trade in and the Star Wars Pro was on sale. I got rid of the game it came with but that was a slick looking PS4 Pro (I still have the controller) everything played better, and it was worth it. As of right now I will say I will not upgrade, but will have to see what the Pro has going for it.
longhornsk57
22-Feb(#29)I would definitely upgrade, especially if it means 4K:60 and not having to choose between 4k:30 and 1080p:60 - imagine playing Spiderman in fidelity with the performance FPS etc.
PS5 is good hardware but it still can't push enough fps in fidelity modes and especially if there's ray tracing. Gimme that Pro or 6 any day I'd upgrade day 1.

All they care about is "the line goes up", anything "quality" that's not 100% guarenteed to make them money (nothing is 100%...) gets tossed. Those are live service games. But they are also free to play games. So people don't care about them nickle and dimming to make money. As its a free game. And those are purely cosmetic purchases. The issue people have is when you buy a $70 game, and it turns out to be a live service game that is constantly putting ads in your face to buy DLC. They then also seem to design the game around road blocks and frustrating the player in hopes they pay for the micro-transactions to make the game not so frustrating. Meaning they are not just cosmetic. They also seem to force ads on you more than f2p games do. There are two types of these games. Ones that are done correctly like Fortnite that people don't have a problem with. And then all the other crap we get like Destiny 2, Diablo 4, Overwatch and so many others.
longhornsk57
28-Feb(#45)Oh ok. I guess I don't really understand the Diablo 4 one because I bought that game and beat it and did a little end game and never bought anything extra.
Also some games like CoD cold war for instance has a battle pass, but the game was fine without it but you could get it for $10 and get cool guns and operators and stuff, I never had an issue with it.
I guess if it was pay to win or pay to get things that really should just be in the game I could see. But I see the point I mean I appreciate normal games like Persona 3R I'm playing now it's just a game no added BS or extra transactions etc

Those are all solid. I'm currently playing through Hogwarts Legacy. Recently, I played Sifu. If you're into hard kung fu games, it's absolutely amazing. Astro's Playroom was pretty cool and it's free!. PS+ is definitely worth it if you like a variety of games. Sackboy, Returnal, Stray, and Kena are all available on there plus tons of other games. I can't find a complete up-to-date list at the moment, but just know that for Sony's 1st party games, Horizon: Forbidden West in early 2022 was their last game to support the free PS4-to-PS5 upgrade. Any game they've released after that will charge $10 and any game released before that is still free.

Yeah, you can Go wrong with Horizon. If you have never played it then jump into the first then go IMMEDIATLEY into the 2nd! and get that DLC. It's exclusive to PS5 and man oh man is it great.
Last of us remastered is a good one also, if you never played or it's been awhile. Part two at least has a $10 upgrade if you already bought Last of Us 2. Gran Turismo 7 is a great racer if you are looking for one to add some variety to your library. Street Fighter 6 or any of the last two Mortal Combat games are good additions to have for fighters.
I was actually impressed with Mortal Combat 11... I like how the story was done as story modes in fighters, I find are usually toss in like a bad afterthought.

Anxiouz
6-Mar(#84)In the PS5 settings you can default the mic to be muted when the controller turns on...which saves battery life a little bit.
As for game sharing, I had issues with that when I wanted to play Miles Morales on the PS5 while my son was playing it on the PS4. But I forget how we worked it out...we may have just took turns. I think if the owner of the game is logged into PSN and playing it, another account (even within the family) can't use the software at the same time. 2012. Released on the 360/PS3. But had an upgraded version with all DLC called Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen (which is the only version you can buy now digitally) on the PS4/Xb1. Its been a free game many times on both systems. And is on sale all the time for $5 or less. Its currently on sale for $5.09 on PS4/5, BUT is also part of the PS+ Extra catalogue. This year has a return of the story mode. Its okay. Actually its the best part of this version of the game. However, this version of the game has a terrible steering issue that has been in the game since last years version. And was never fixed. So I fully expect it to be in 24 as well. Well, I'm sure this will be like the first game. Because there are lots of dumb ass dudes out there. And they wont use your pawn unless it is something they can jack off to. And no one using it means no rift crystals. And rift crystals are a currency used for a lot of things. I remember in the first game having a dude who was a beast. You could solo the game with him (as in just using the one required pawn) because he had 100% knowledge, and had all the best gear. Was also spec'd perfectly. No one really used him. He maybe got used once a month and didn't earn any RC. I changed him to a chick who looked like an anime nutters wet dream and she was being used so much I ended up with five million rift crystals in a couple weeks.

Also, I have a folder for games I beat but still want to platinum, so I can just open one here and there, work on one trophy, and then go back to whatever game I’m still trying to beat. It’s really convenient.

If you play mostly PS4 games then basically any external drive will work.

12-Mar(#129)You can get 500GB/1TB external SSDs pretty cheap now just to add room. I have 2 external SSDs (both 500GB I think) and I just throw the larger games I may not be playing now but also don't want to re-DL later to. I don't even keep them always plugged in. But I don't keep things that I know I won't play for months...I just keep current things on the internal storage, and "maybe/soon" things on external storage so that if I do play them I don't have to DL.
For like $25 you can get 500GB external (or more?) and I'd just start with that. I love the idea of having terabytes and not have to DL anything again but I have to imagine the PS5 gets sluggish loading the library and also checking for auto-updates for all titles it sees. But I dunno, I'm totally fine with the system storage.

I've used then with no issue. However they are not "legit" often times codes are bought on different markets or with stolen Credit Cards. Any site listed here is a legit key seller:
https://isthereanydeal.com/shops/CD Keys, G2A, Kinguin,Eneba, countless others and yes, CD KEYS is not legit. You'll most likely get the game but they are not legit. Indie game developers have said you're better of pirating games than buying from the non legit sites.

It’s kind of an arcadey fantasy game with really great controls during the action. It’s pretty meh as far as the story goes but it’s good enough. The difference in the play styles between classes is really diverse as well. Imagine getting to climb on the back of a chimera or hydra and chopping off its head, or ranging it with a bow, or brute forcing it with a sword and shield etc. It’s kind of the next evolution of the capcom fantasy arcade beat em ups in an open world with much more depth. And honestly- the cheese of the dialogue and NPCs is pretty endearing.

21-Mar(#150)"Rise of the Ronin confounds me. On one hand, it's an action game with combat that’s a cut above most of its peers, an interesting historical fiction world and characters, entertaining co-op, and plenty of neat little flourishes that make traveling through its map completing missions a lot of fun. On the other hand, it's heavily weighed down by the forces of the All Game: bloat, the stereotypical “Ubisoft Map With Tons of Icons to Clear,” an outrageous amount of loot loaded with meaningless incremental stat upgrades, and the overwhelming feeling that, like a good TV show that keeps running long past its expiration date, it would’ve been a lot more fondly remembered if there was a lot less of it. It's so weird that I read all these drift issues on each console. I don't put nearly as many hours into my games as I did, but through all the years/consoles, I've yet to have a single drift issue on any console, ever.
Is it luck of the draw? How the controllers are used/abused? Charging? I dunno, can't say I've ever looked into it.
I have a hard time saying I'm just lucky though. I'm pretty hard on my controllers (which is why they all have protection on the controller + sticks), and my hands sweat 24/7. I would think that I'd be a prime use case of having constantly failing controllers. Hell, maybe the extra perspiration is what results in longevitiy? haha who knows.

These are the only controllers I've ever had an issue with personally. No other console have I ever had to buy new controllers. Well, that is a lie. I had to buy a new PS3 controller once because I purposefully broke one. But that was on purpose. And I was being a child/idiot for being angry at a game. I've never had one ever die on me or break before this system. Never had stick drift issues. But I've had a problem with every single controller purchased for the system.
But you are right, I guess I shouldn't say anyone who hasn't had issue is lucky. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that haven't had any issues. The people with issues are always going to be far more vocal. But there are a lot of people who voice issues about them. Like, what seems a crazy high amount to me. Which leads me to believe there is a quality control problem with them. And when you charge $70+ for a freaking controller, and you have to buy 4+ of them in just over 3 years of the consoles life. That is not something someone is going to be happy about. Which just makes them more upset about the issues.

That just sounds like the stick is dirty and needs to be cleaned. And you randomly breakup and remove the tiny particles causing the problem. And then it returns later from new dirt. That is very common on these because of the opening being too big on them. Small things can get stuck in them easily. Which is why the press and rotate thing works for so many people. You crush and break up the dirt causing the issue. Cleaning them regularly will prevent this.

But on that topic...so far i think the MC is kinda weird, I didnt find her extremely attractive (besides her butt). Weird like she has a completely different art style compared to the other character. And I reaaaaally dont like how her hair looks and flows. Granted, I only saw 2 costumes and my gripe is with the main costume.
Thankfully there's (supposedly) a lot of costumes in the game. Hopefully they dont hide them behind microtransactions.

I was really close on a few...
FF9 - Disk corruption on disk 4 - I plan on replaying it at some point.
Suikoden 2 - sunk about 30 hours in and my PS2 died and lost interest while waiting for my RMA.
Star Ocean 2nd Story - I sunk about 35 hours and I feel as though I was REALLY close but I was was moving around a lot and ended up misplacing it... I actually found it about 8 years ago...
Xenogears - about 40 hours or so in.... I remember feeling I was getting close to the end, I was switching from night shifts to day and I stopped playing games for awhile and never went back.
World of Final Fantasy - This one I feel bad, I was maybe 25 hours in really enjoying it probably about half way and My sister asked me to play World of Warcraft again. It had been years since I played and thought what the hell. Probably went back for 3 weeks we lost interest and never went back to W of FF.
Pokémon Red - Honestly could not tell you how far, playing it along with Stadium it was all a damn blur. But it was a massive amount of time.
Zelda Phantom Hour Glass - I bought this over Christmas when I worked at Dell in a Call center. I about a DS also, because it was dead... work I mean. for 2 days after Christmas you might have received 4-5 calls total. So there was a lot of dead time. I probably got 10 hours in maybe a little more but I never went back to it after those two days. I was HUGE into World of Warcraft and the ONLY game I played at home was that during this time. Never went back.. it's on the list of ones that bug me because it was a shorter game and I could have finished it.
There are probably a handful of others that I got close to halfway like Wild Arms, Legend of Dragoon, FFX, Xenosaga and Chrono Cross.
DRAGON QUEST XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age is one I really liked but for some reason stopped playing, I think I was only 4-5 hours in. I am thinking I was leaving on a vacation and never went back.
There are probably another handful of games like Mario RPG, Zelda Links Awakening (Switch) that I Only have a few hours in and would like to go back.
Unicorn Overlord is honestly grabbing me like Suikoden 2 did. I am having a lot of fun with it. I am about 6 hours into it now. Am I going to be a completionist with this game? probably not.. I don't think I will have the time, but I will get as close as possible. I did pick up some sleep shifts at work so maybe I can squeeze 10-14 hours in that I would not have had otherwise....

I am also having ALOT of fun with Hot Wheels unleashed. I accidently bought the PS4 version when it was on a digital sale and then bought the PS5 version a few months later since it was cheap and picked up all the DLC for next to nothing. Was kind of shocked how much better it played, even though I don't think it was much of a graphical improvement. I see Hot wheels unleased 2 is on a very good deal... but I will wait it will be again.
Deathloop is another one simply for how it really utilizes the Dual sense
Ratchet and Clank Rift apart is another good one
Last of Us Part one and two - yes I know, but the PS5 versions are beautiful.
Anyway have fun! You have a lot of fantastic content to look forward to.
Returnal - it's on my list also, so I can't coment to much.

Hmm. I installed it today, because I wanted to see how many points I had without ever actually using it beyond signing up for it when it launched. So just from buying things. Enough to get $40 in PSN funds. Not too shabby. But I think I'll try and get enough to get Rise of the Ronin.
But to the point of this quote chain. I started the one for buying a game, for points. Which I owned two of them on two of the list. Neither have completed since activating them hours ago. Maybe that doesn't work for the points ones, but for the collectable ones? Which, what the hell is the point of the collectables. Is their version of NFTs. So dumb.

17-Apr(#219)Yeah, that doesn't work for me. I could be wrong, but I don't think those activities count for games you already own before activating it? It sucks enough that it only counts for digital titles.

25-Apr(#227)Ive stayed away from soulslike for the last few years but I think I may get back to it with this game and eventually Wukong (if it ends up being awesome). Any modern game that includes multiple unlockable alternate costumes has my respect.

25-Apr(#229)Most games go on sale pretty quickly if you look at GameFly sales. No reason to buy day 1.

25-Apr(#231)$78 with sales tax for me to buy a new game.
I was very surprised Helldivers 2 was $40 on day one. I wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

Micros are there, but so far everything has been unlockable in game. You can find currency on the maps while you play or you can pay for it an get it faster. Its a weird decision but I think it paid off in the end.

* 26-Apr(#234)I was trying to wrap up some other games before getting into GOW:Rag:Valhalla. I'm a few hours in now and I'm still giddy to just have more GOW to play, but man, i really don't get this.
I like that it's a bit of a GOW history montage of memories, but the repetition is a style of game I hate...but it also extends the story which makes me interested. Kinda. Both recent GOW games are A+ to me and I love them, and even though the DLC is free....I hate roguelites (or whatever they're called) but this has just enough to keep me playing. But I don't even know what my goal is. Or how far I need to go. Or how many runs this may take. I saw a trophy for getting 15k wisps or whatever in 1 run, which seems insane.
I dropped the difficulty after awhile because the battles weren't much fun. And then just repeating them was less fun. I'm going to keep going but this DLC is the first negative I can mark towards any GOW yet, which is crazy.
